Navigate with a vision

Navigate with a vision

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

The captain of a ship assumes the critical responsibility of navigating safely to a planned destination. He chooses a trajectory for his journey, masters the use of requisite equipment and manages his team. The work of a ship captain starts with a vision that determines everything he does. Successful people, businesses and governments set a vision that drives their focus and guides their steps.

Christopher Columbus's vision landed him in America. Gandhi's vision of non-violence liberated India. Martin Luther King Jr's vision of equality for his land sped up the advent of universal freedom and social justice in America. The Bible says without a vision, the people perish. All great achievements start with a compelling, uplifting and transformative vision.

The source of vision supplies the river of motivation and creativity, creates a path in the valley of uncertainty and challenges, and reaches the ocean of success. It refreshes the riverain communities of family members, staff, customers and beneficiaries.

A clear vision compels you. You pursue the requisite knowledge, training and skills. You acquire the right tools and equipment. You outline a good strategy. And you establish a sustaining network. Thus, take time to shape your vision, lest you get distracted or confused.

Leadership prevails on a vision. Management thrives thanks to a vision. Inspiration imbues your inner circle and the whole organization by means of a vision. A vision conveys hope, strengthens faith, boosts courage. It also fuels confidence and togetherness. Ultimately, it generates transformative power.

Still not sure about your vision? Invest time in defining it. This first step means the start of a new season in your life. In everything, navigate with a vision.

Serve to succeed

Serve to succeed

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

Quality service confers a cutting edge on businesses and social organizations in the global competition. Impactful leaderships serve well their constituencies. And mutual service remains the hallmark of good relationships. Therefore, anyone aspiring to success embraces service as the key that opens the door of goodwill and collaboration.

Consider serving those who serve you, doctors, mechanics, accountants, handymen, clergymen. Lavish on them encouragement, words of appreciation, smiles and tips that may serve their needs. Before consulting them, think of something that could make their day. They will take more pleasure to help resolve your issues. Service does generate influence and power. As you extend appreciation and respect to them, they will roll out the red carpet for you.

The mere action of serving someone or a community creates a sense of well-being, boosts your self confidence and instills peace of mind. Are you feeling sad or depressed, call a lonely senior citizen, visit a sick man, extend help to an unemployed woman  or share some food with a friend. You are sure to recover your joy in no time and get energy to perform better at work. Service helps you to keep worry and depression at bay.

What about using service to pursue lofty goals and create wealth? Leonard was a real estate agent who thrived in his business in a difficult market and economy. How did he do it? By giving his potential customers the gift of attention, listening to detect any opportunity to help with some issue, and going the extra mile to get them the property they want. The reward for serving eventually shows up, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Are you really serious about success? Serve.

Treasure friendship

Treasure friendship

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

The gregarious instinct brings us together for an interdependent life in community. Our progress, even our survival, rests on the service and support of others. Likewise, we feel happy when we trust and serve others. We develop special relationships with friends who have the same interests as us and enjoy our company as we enjoy theirs.

The key to friendship comes down to mutual appreciation and love through thick and thin. Your best friend may be worth more than a brother or a sister. Great friendships are a rare commodity and take time to develop and blossom. Usually, their intensity varies according to life seasons and circumstances.

To make friends, you show a friendly attitude and nurture your relationships. In other words, you respect, accept and understand without passing judgment. Further, you serve and you give. Such connections open doors, unlock opportunities and create harmony in society.

Friendship reinforces your sense of self esteem. You feel valued and appreciated. You dispense attention and thoughtfulness. You control your loneliness. Lasting friendship is a win win relationship.

Friendship encourages progress and sharpens the mind. You run your ideas by friends to develop greater clarity and receive support. Many times, it takes the positive energy of a friend to push you toward the achievement of your goals.

You enjoy the benefits of friendship when you select your friends well. Birds of a feather flock together. Friends rub on each other's minds and end up converging toward some traits and habits.

A network of friends and contacts make a positive impact on your life.  Show a friendly attitude to attract a friendly response and secure cooperation. Once you find good friends, treasure them.
