Aiming high? Communicate well

Aiming high? Communicate well

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

Communication skills clear the way to great achievements. Basic communication sustains our survival, defines our connection with our environment and drives our understanding and vision. The more we master our communication skills, the clearer we speak our minds to reach the hearts and minds of our interlocutors. Personal development and social transformation thrive on good communication skills.

Our communication style identifies our native community, our culture and even our occupation, through the language we speak, the words and tone we use and the emotions we arouse. Once, I took my daughter to the pediatrician. After I presented her issues, the pediatrician asked me if I was a doctor. I said no, why? He replied, “because of the way you speak”. Our communication style determines the perception we project to others.

You speak the language and understand the culture of a group to be accepted and integrated.

You contribute to the peace of society, the harmony and well-being of your family, workplace and network of friends using good communication. Nations reach the top of their development process because their leaders usually communicate based on key principles, including respect, optimism and fairness. Likewise, communities loose in their communication style have trouble to move forward.

Aware that effective communication starts with the mind and the heart, successful people and communities take care of their thoughts and emotions. Their non verbal communication becomes a powerful tool for persuasion.

Invest in sharpening your communication skills, it is one of the best placements you will ever make. The lofty goals you are pursuing, you will attain them as you communicate well with everyone, including hostile people. Aiming high? Communicate well.

Humility elevates you

Humility elevates you

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

Most universally revered masters extol humility as a chief virtue. The saying goes “the only thing you do starting at the top is digging a hole”. To climb the ladder of maturity and progress you must be aware that others enjoy unique skills and strengths.  Even the weakest in appearance has something to offer, which you don't have. This sobering reality helps you to be humble.

Humility may not come to you naturally. Everyone wants to be the first and the best. Everyone wants to receive the appreciation of others. When you find yourself lacking in some way, you may tend to mask your feeling of inferiority by affirming your own importance or superiority. If you enjoy some success, you may believe that others are less deserving.

It takes a healthy self-esteem to nurture humility. You know your intrinsic worth and see beyond yourself. You know you cannot major in everything. If your colleagues perform better than you, it means that they can inspire and teach you. You remain aware that you have your own skills and experience they can learn from. Humility facilitates learning and encourages self-reflection.

You cannot reach a goal by yourself. You cannot receive this raise or experience that business growth without the support of others. Humility makes it easy for persons around you to lift you up or meet your request. By virtue of the principle of reciprocity, when you magnify the importance of others, they magnify your importance as well.

Humility and submission are not groveling. They are about respecting and appreciating others. They prepare you for higher ground. Humility elevates you.

Vigilance sustains your success

Vigilance sustains your success

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

Have you ever seen a strategic site without the services of sentinels keeping watch and scanning the horizon to detect threats, attacks or dangers? Would a lion hunt down a prey without keeping close watch to assess the opportunity and the timing of an attack? Can a farmer get a good harvest without watching for weeds, pests or humidity level?

Vigilance entails clarity on what you want to achieve and the critical path that will get you there. Vigilance offers a solid foundation to good timing, risk assessment, taking opportunities and foreseeing challenges. Vigilance facilitates the attainment of your goals, sustains your success and protects your assets. In brief, you will be empowered to prepare properly, control your distractions and focus effectively on a task.

In any endeavor, preparation makes or break your journey to success. Sometimes, the temptation faces you to embark on a task without preparing. If you are vigilant, you will know that the smooth execution of any plan requires  checking and developing your knowledge and skills, motivating and training your team, meeting prerequisites, and collecting requisite materials.

Your thoughts often dwell on something foreign to the work at hand. It is hard to eliminate distractions because of the value we attach to our past and our future, especially when strong emotions are involved. Vigilance helps you to control the flow of distractions and remain on target.

Further, the directions to the end of your journey comes into focus. You can envisage the steps, the twists and turns, as well as the detours. Vigilance provides you with a practical GPS to avoid getting lost.

As a good sentinel, you will scan your horizon, evaluate signals, and make adjustments. Vigilance sustains your success.

Order enhances your life

Order enhances your life

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

Nature works in a sustainable way and its elements sustain the ecosystem. The river flows in its bed, the sea washes shores and beaches, the sun and moon stick to their cycles, and a fruit usually comes to us well covered. This means that you cannot reach any goal or repeat your good results without a procedure, a sequence, an order.

Sometimes, order sounds restrictive and creates discomfort, but in the long run, it sustains your freedom and infuses effectiveness to your efforts. Imagine the elements in nature doing what they wish. This scenario would display chaos and disaster with flooding, tsunamis, droughts and the like. For you to thrive, you need good order: order in your home, order at work, order at play, order on the road.

Order uplifts your mood and conditions your mind to work at its best. Creativity graces your thinking, especially in problem solving. And your productivity soars as you get to focus more easily without clutter around. Predictability helps you to find readily what you look for. Further, interpersonal relationships flourish with the good dispositions that order begets and without the irritability that a messy environment triggers.

Well-off neighborhoods and communities exhibit order, cleanliness and beauty. This means that wealth contributes to order, at the same time order contributes to wealth creation. Therefore, order should get priority in your life.

However, you must have a clear and lofty vision of order. Else, any environment you live in becomes normal and addictive at some point. Make order a habit and practice it so that the beehive of your life produce the honey of happiness and abundance.

Let order enhance your life!

Keep control with forgiveness

Keep control with forgiveness

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

No one has ever avoided conflict altogether. In conflicts, many get hurt and hold grudges. A harsh attitude or word resonates and depresses over many years. Physical abuse may trigger an unending emotional distress. Most victims end up in a life of acrimony, complain and psychosomatic ailments.

The best prevention or cure against such a situation is to forgive and move on.

Forgiveness means you renounce your right to get even as would require justice and fairness. You recognize that you cannot take responsibility for someone else's action, and getting revenge goes beyond your duty. In fact, when you declutter your minds from the impact of unfairness, you refocus and regain control over your lives.

Forgiveness places you on a higher plane than your abuser. You don't want to do to the wicked the same thing he did to you. You oppose good to evil and you show love where hatred was meted out. You fight fire with water. In short, you let your spiritual principles shine.

You forgive because you love yourself. Why continue to live with the burden of painful memories? Why gracing your abuser with frequent thoughts?  With forgiveness, you remember the unpleasant incident while keeping a good emotional state. You also learn to manage abusive environments and deprive abusers of the joy of hurting you.

Many unfair acts redirect your path for better opportunities. The Bible story of Joseph teaches that sometimes betrayal or a bad break helps you to reach your full potential. Therefore, you must forgive. The abuser may not know what he is doing. And you may become stronger and more fulfilled because of the incident.

Keep control of your life. Forgive others and yourself.
