Pursuing success? Summon knowledge.

Pursuing success? Summon knowledge.

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

“My people perish for lack of knowledge” shines from the Bible jewelry case of truth as a key that unlocks the gate to lofty achievements. We make mistakes and fall into difficulties because we most likely don't know better. Often, lack of information and data or emotional frailties convince us to take the wrong road. However, everything comes out better in the light of knowledge where excellence makes its abode. We don't grope around in the dark thanks to pertinent knowledge.

A lady improvised a song on the spot, lyrics, melody and all. Inspired by a celebrated artist, she had nurtured a strong desire to sing for even an audience of family and friends. You guess the embarrassment that followed her performance. Would you like to be in her shoes? In any endeavor, a strong desire may be the beginning, but it suffices not. Learning, practice and a tad of talent always make the difference.

Pertinent knowledge is a must. It empowers you to produce the results you are after. Taking a daily dose of knowledge through learning builds your mental muscles and prepares you for challenges ahead.

Knowledge equips you with a valuable gift to share. And it works like love; the more you give, the more you receive. No wonder people teach topics they want to master. And co-workers who share knowledge profusely are appreciated and advance in their career.

The habit of continuous learning and knowledge acquisition helps predict the future of individuals and communities. It is a leading indicator of success.

Are you mired in the quicksands of challenges or negative growth? Summon knowledge. It will lift you up and enlighten your path.

Your goals, the rungs to your ladder

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

The world of sports offers a great illustration of the critical importance of goals. For example, in football, every team strives to place the ball in the back of the opponent net as many times as possible. In tennis, you get a point when the opponent fails to return the ball. The players have a system to measure progress and victory. Likewise, goals offer a system that supports progress and success.

Goals give meaning and direction to your business, career, family and hobby. Coasting through life without ambitions and goals stifles your self development. A goal to get a degree in four years points to frequent activities such as attending school, reading, studying and researching. Carrying out these activities allows you to determine that you are on the right track.

Every goal requires a plan of action, possible acquisition of new skills and effective time management. Suppose you decide to set up an online business in there years. You most likely will decide the team, equipment and itinerary that will take you to this destination. Setting a goal without an attendant critical path conjures the idea of daydreaming which leads nowhere.

Consider a pilot who purposes to fly from Washington DC to Paris on a particular day and time. He has a SMART goal: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely. These features characterize the types of goal that will inspire, motivate and sustain you to action.

Have you ever seen a ladder without rungs? Even leaned on the right wall, it wouldn't allow you to climb. Goals work as rungs to your ladder. Use them.

Your language, your stepping stone

Your language, your stepping stone

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

We use our language to express our thoughts and feelings, to entertain and convince, to inspire and transform. Imagine the world without Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, without the impactful words of Churchill, Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr. Our language holds such power as to make or break our life and the progress of our community. Our language, whether in jest or in anger, at work or at home, to ourselves, to a friend or to a foe, fashions our condition.

Therefore, we should pay careful attention to what we say. Not only it reveals our extraction and level of education, but also our views on our fellow men and women, and our aspirations. The topics dominating our conversations and the way we address them display our true selves. The water of our language can hardly be of better quality than the source of our minds and hearts.

If you want your interlocutors to speak kindly with you, speak kindly with them. If you want other people to use non judgmental words on you, use appreciative words on them. If you want your neighbors to utter supportive thoughts about you, utter supportive thoughts about them. The world tend to mirror you by returning your language to you.

Now any new skill brings along new concepts and a new language. When you use them to enlighten and help others, you gain respect. This way, you increase your influence and attain more easily positions of leadership.

If you desire more from life, don't just invest in your look, your outfit, your diet and your fitness. Invest also in refining and enriching your language, because your language is your stepping stone.

Fairness enlightens your path

Fairness enlightens your path

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

The golden rule ensures that we impart on others the same treatment we aspire to. Because we hold no guarantee about our status tomorrow, we should make the best of today by upholding our neighbor rights. The precept of fairness cuts across great spiritual teachings because it leads to a stable life and creates the right conditions for sustainable success. The homing pigeon of fairness always comes back to us with desirable returns.

We all have personal preferences. Even among our family members, we may have a soft spot for a parent, a child or a sibling. However an even handed attitude goes a long way in generating trust and respect. In fairness, we should strive to measure every fact or value every performance with the yardstick of the truth, without fear or favor. We should look at merit, not at persons, and everyone would receive what they are entitled to.

The practice of fairness may mean that you have to take some short-term pain for long-term gains. As you walk in a referee shoes, you may witness a team you like going down in defeat without doing anything to alter the final result. Your attitude will help them prepare better for future matches. Favoritism would be fatal in the long run.

Fairness supports unity and harmony in the family and the nation. It promotes human dignity, upholds transparency and naturally improves the social order. It creates conditions for genius to emerge and for individual efforts to flourish.

Isn't it uplifting to receive the degree you toiled for, the job your qualifications land you and the contract your company deserves. Fairness props personal and national development. Fairness creates opportunities and enlightens your path.
