Vigilance sustains your success

Vigilance sustains your success

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

Have you ever seen a strategic site without the services of sentinels keeping watch and scanning the horizon to detect threats, attacks or dangers? Would a lion hunt down a prey without keeping close watch to assess the opportunity and the timing of an attack? Can a farmer get a good harvest without watching for weeds, pests or humidity level?

Vigilance entails clarity on what you want to achieve and the critical path that will get you there. Vigilance offers a solid foundation to good timing, risk assessment, taking opportunities and foreseeing challenges. Vigilance facilitates the attainment of your goals, sustains your success and protects your assets. In brief, you will be empowered to prepare properly, control your distractions and focus effectively on a task.

In any endeavor, preparation makes or break your journey to success. Sometimes, the temptation faces you to embark on a task without preparing. If you are vigilant, you will know that the smooth execution of any plan requires  checking and developing your knowledge and skills, motivating and training your team, meeting prerequisites, and collecting requisite materials.

Your thoughts often dwell on something foreign to the work at hand. It is hard to eliminate distractions because of the value we attach to our past and our future, especially when strong emotions are involved. Vigilance helps you to control the flow of distractions and remain on target.

Further, the directions to the end of your journey comes into focus. You can envisage the steps, the twists and turns, as well as the detours. Vigilance provides you with a practical GPS to avoid getting lost.

As a good sentinel, you will scan your horizon, evaluate signals, and make adjustments. Vigilance sustains your success.
