Serve to succeed

Serve to succeed

By Jean Ricot Dormeus

Quality service confers a cutting edge on businesses and social organizations in the global competition. Impactful leaderships serve well their constituencies. And mutual service remains the hallmark of good relationships. Therefore, anyone aspiring to success embraces service as the key that opens the door of goodwill and collaboration.

Consider serving those who serve you, doctors, mechanics, accountants, handymen, clergymen. Lavish on them encouragement, words of appreciation, smiles and tips that may serve their needs. Before consulting them, think of something that could make their day. They will take more pleasure to help resolve your issues. Service does generate influence and power. As you extend appreciation and respect to them, they will roll out the red carpet for you.

The mere action of serving someone or a community creates a sense of well-being, boosts your self confidence and instills peace of mind. Are you feeling sad or depressed, call a lonely senior citizen, visit a sick man, extend help to an unemployed woman  or share some food with a friend. You are sure to recover your joy in no time and get energy to perform better at work. Service helps you to keep worry and depression at bay.

What about using service to pursue lofty goals and create wealth? Leonard was a real estate agent who thrived in his business in a difficult market and economy. How did he do it? By giving his potential customers the gift of attention, listening to detect any opportunity to help with some issue, and going the extra mile to get them the property they want. The reward for serving eventually shows up, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Are you really serious about success? Serve.
